The word trigger is pretty mainstream these days but just because you have a sense of what it means, it doesn’t necessarily make it easier to deal with at the moment.
Sometimes we’re triggered by what’s happening in the present. Someone is crossing a boundary or there is an injustice and we feel angry and say or do something about it.
Other times, you may notice an intense amount of anger, sadness or shame and it hits you like a ton of bricks right after you heard or saw something and it doesn’t completely make sense.
