Tone Policing - A conversational strategy known as "tone policing" occurs when someone minimizes or criticizes another person's expression of their emotions or opinions without addressing the substance of what they are saying. This frequently has the effect of silencing disadvantaged voices or deflecting attention from pressing problems by emphasizing the delivery style of the message rather than its content.
