Rafael is an El Pasoan former college and professional basketball player who spent his first three years cementing his legacy at Brooklyn College before transferring his senior year to URI where he would be part of the 1992-1993 NCAA Tournament team. After his collegiate career ended, he spent time overseas all over South America. After his career ended, he became a Phys Ed teacher and basketball trainer before the pandemic shut down.
