Sukki, also known as Sukki Menon or “Sukki Singapora”, is an entertainer, activist and humanitarian. Starting in burlesque, she achieved international recognition for campaigning to make burlesque a legitimate art form in Asia, and for fighting for womens’ rights worldwide, especially for empowerment and the right for women to reclaim their bodies. Her work led to an invite from Buckingham Palace, a campaign with Facebook and a nomination at this year’s Women of the Future Awards. She’s now made the move to television with the currently trending show on NETFLIX, Singapore Social. The show is the first ever unscripted docu-series set in Asia featuring an all Asian cast for global release In addition to this Sukki has appeared in Tatler, Forbes, BBC Worldservice and BBC Asian Network, championing feminism and female empowerment. In addition to her TV performances, she also serves as a global ambassador for The Sharan Project, a UK-based nonprofit organization that provides support and advice for South Asian women confronting health, housing, employment, education, financial, and legal issues. Sukki often posts inspirational content on her Instagram page about supporting women. Given how rampant misogyny still is in many parts of the world, having someone be so outspoken in the fight against it is really moving to see and could help encourage her 220,000 followers to follow in her footsteps.
