Don't be a spammy weirdo when you cold message people
“It’s all about creating conversations, it’s not about how many copy and paste messages you send.”
Brooke Elder
In Podcast 126 Brooke shares the first episode of Spam Squad, where she teaches how to not be spammy, but still get results. She walks through the psychology and motives of messaging and what it is you’re trying to accomplish and how to do it in an Authentic way.
Brooke gives examples of actual spammy messages that she and her team have found on social media. She walks you through why you shouldn’t post like that and what you can do instead.
“Think of what you’re really telling people when you send messages.” - Brooke Elder.
Sometimes when you don't know how to be authentic, or you're getting those copy and paste messages from your upline, and you're like, “this doesn't feel right, but I don't know what to do instead.” That’s what this episode is going to do, we're going to say, okay, this is what is not good. This is what good looks like. So that way we can really save everyone from all the spammy weirdos that are out there.
If you're having conversations with people, you need to have actual conversations with people. You can't just do copy and paste messages and throw them out. All the things that we are told to do in network marketing just makes you look like you're desperate and it makes it look like you don't care about other people and it's not authentic.
When you send messages think “what is my motive?” If you're motivated by, “I want them to join my team” or “I want them to buy my stuff,” it's never going to work - ever. But if your motive is “I'm here to serve” and “I just want to see if there's any way that I could help this person” and that's why you're asking these questions, then that is how you are going to be able to actually build your business and grow.
One authentic way to start messaging is to use the “FROG” method. You want to ask open-ended questions, not yes or no, because you want them to engage. And if they give you back, like one word answers, it means that they don't want to talk to you.
F stands for Family, ask something about their family. R stands for Recreation, a great question especially now with COVID, what do they do for fun? O stands for Occupation. Occupation is where we start listening about how their job is going, are they looking for an opportunity. And then G stands for Goals. This is an awesome time to discuss goals because the new year has just started. Using the FROG method helps build a conversation, a connection and an authentic relationship.
“It's all about getting quality people to talk to and really creating a relationship. When you do that, you're going to come off authentic and you're not going to be spammy. .” - Brooke Elder.
