Today I talk with my friend Makini Smith as she shares her truth. She explains how our stories are shaped and molded through our own perspective based on our upbringing and surroundings. She shares a story about her upbringing and how it has impacted the relationships she found herself in and the work she's done to reflect and understand how that's, in turn, impacted the world around her. Towards the end of our conversation, Makini: the "come back queen", touches on resilience and how in order to fully understand what true resilience was, she had to be willing to put in the work.
A bit more about Makini:
I am an award-winning entrepreneur and proud founder of A Walk in My Stilettos. As a mindset coach, I have created a successful business focused on personal development and helping women thrive. I am also a certified Proctor Gallagher consultant, a podcast host, a 4-time author, and a social media influencer.
My goal is to help people improve the quality of life while spreading awareness about the importance of mindset. To date, I have shared my expertise on global media platforms, including Chatelaine, xoNecole, iHeart Radio, CBC, Vice News, a Times Square billboard, and more.
In 2018, I was nominated for the Peoples Choice Award for Best Black Canadian Podcaster as host of the 5-star rated ‘A Walk in My Stilettos’ podcast. Now one of the top 2% most popular podcasts globally, it focuses on inspiring women to conquer their fears, own their stories, and strengthen their resilience.
I am a 4-time nominee for the RBC Women Entrepreneur Awards. In the 2018 Canadian Election, I ran for Provincial Parliament to enact positive change and lead by example.
