Tim Gray, a native of Los Angeles, has been at Variety for 40 years. In that time, he's held a number of positions at the news organization, ranging from proofreader to editor-in-chief to his current role as senior VP/awards editor. He has also seen fundamental changes in the entertainment industry and in journalism, which has kept his daily role changing. Among his proudest accomplishments are the book "Variety: An Illustrated History of the World," which looks at 100 years of world events as covered by Variety, and "Violence & Entertainment," which explores various aspects of violence, from multiple points of view.
