For this episode we have MaryAnn Celis from the US, share with us her passion around Climate Change Education and Empowering the Youth.
The conversation begins with the positive energies from group meditation, and learn of MaryAnn’s international background as a Filipino-American, the lessons of appreciating nature from living in Japan and misconceptions of being a teacher. Moreover, she shares her honest thoughts about the COP19 and the dire reality of Climate Change. On the other hand, she shares the significant projects such as working on Human rights for the Youth at UNICEF, and the hope she has from the youth. She addresses Social Emotional Learning (SEL) that focuses on developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills to achieve successes in school, work, and life, which could include meditation practices or healing circles and explains the benefits it has and the aspirations for it to be a global movement.
Finally, MaryAnn talks about her coming out story, her mentors, and sustainability practices. We are reminded by the inspiration MaryAnn is, that as communities we can work together and we do not need to “Fix” the beautiful masterpieces that children are, but empower them and work to change the structures that hinder the success they can achieve.
