After two weeks fighting the Drake Passage, the James Caird and its six voyagers are out of potable water, South Georgia Island is within striking distance, but reefs and storms block the path. Two more days of master seamanship and just enough good fortune brings the Caird to a beachhead necessitating a crossing of the South Georgia Island, a mountainous hellhole that also possesses the Stromness Bay whaling station, a pinprick of civilization that just might finally be the end of this Successful Failure.
