What’s up?! We’re back and we’re heading to Puerto Rico! We talk about the monster called a Chupacabra, which only came onto the folklore scene in the 1990s. We talk about all of Puerto Rico’s amazing food. We talk about all the reasons why you should visit the island. But mostly, we talk about how much we love piña coladas.
Research for this episode was sourced from all over, including Wikipedia, BBC, and All That’s Interesting.
Notable Show Moments01:40 — San Juan, PR!
43:00 — Monsters!
Piña coladas — Supposedly invented on the island! The recipe includes:
8 oz can cream of coconut
24 oz pineapple juice
8 oz rum (preferably white)
Ice
Blend 3-4 minutes (although I prefer it over ice not blended)
Puerto rican coffee — Distinctive smooth, rich flavor thanks to the island’s rich volcanic soil and mountainous farmland. This is what Chelsea purchased during the episode!
Tostones — Delicious fried plantain food that is even better with maya ketchup. Salty and delicious
Arroz Con Gandules — Considered the island’s national dish
Maduros — Fried plantains (different from tostones). More sweet. Also delicious!
Coco Rico — A carbonated coconut beverage
Coquito — A milky coconut drink served during Christmas time!
Mofongo — Basically plantain mashed potato.
Castillo San Cristobal — The original fort built when San Juan was founded
almost 500 years ago.
Outdoor art galleries — There is a huge art scene in PR with vibrant colors being a central theme.
Calle San Sebastian — Lots of street vendors
Bacardi Rum Factory — Take a tour!
El Yunque rainforest — Lots of nature trails, waterfalls, and more than 240 species of plans and animals
Vieques Bioluminescent Bay — There are only 5 bioluminscent bays in the world and Puerto Rico has three of them
Thank you so much for listening! We are so incredibly grateful for your support, love, and ongoing attention. You must like us to be here, and we just have to admit we like you too. If you haven’t given us a review on Apple Podcasts yet, your 5-star feedback helps us reach more people. Which is what we want, obviously. The more the merrier!
Until next time — stay weird, le strangers.
