Ep 14: Tiffany McQuaid, President at McQuaid & Company

Listen Later

Tiffany knew she would own a brokerage from the very beginning.  So she took the steps needed to learn her market, paid attention to what was working, and studied her competition so she knew where the voids were and where could fill them. She’s soulful, smart and does everything to the Mth degree.

Tiffany’s superpower lies in the details. She has a keen vision of how to create clever, creative events and experiences for her business and for her community. Her brain is just wired this way and this permeates every aspect of her business.

If you take the gifts you have, you can always find a way to maneuver them to work in your favor. She could see her community was in need of local events. She decided to fill  this void and used her sweat equity to catapult her brand. She weaves her creative flair into everything from restroom signs, to the color of the chairs, and used this to kickstart things on a very small budget. Tiffany advises us to, "Never underestimate the value of sweat equity."

So whatever your schtick, don't forget the importance of consistent branding across every channel to help build top of mind awareness and recognition. This helps break through the noise and be memorable. “Any time you can pique someone’s interest and get them thinking and connecting, the rate of retention is going to go through the roof.” Creativity can be the thing that takes something from good to great.

Tiffany also hit the lottery when it comes to mentors. She counts Barbara Corcoran and Dolly Lenz amongst her guiding Lights, and will always underscore the importance of sage advice from someone who understands the daily challenges. "You have to have some sort of mentorship component to help navigate the path of entrepreneurship. Everything from the littlest things to the big, important decisions, require having someone as a sounding board and is critical for success."

How can our intentional community help Tiffany’s business grow? Tiffany is trying to find a soul-ution to manage the best way to grow without taxing her current system. If you’ve walked through this process in your business, please reach out to Tiffany and share your wisdom and what you've learned along the way.
