We all experience heartache multiple times throughout our lives. However, we don’t always see and apply the valuable lessons from those experiences. Rather, heartache often distracts us with confusion about our identity post-loss. Who am I now that the relationship is over? Who am I after my loved one passed away? What do I regret? Change is inevitable, and therefore, so is heartache. But with this understanding, we have opportunities to address warning signs within ourselves and in relationships. Having the presence, clarity, awareness, and courage to do so helps us extract the valuable wisdom from our experiences, rather than avoid it until we are left dumbfounded by what happened.
