Feelings and emotions can be quite confusing. There are physiological and cognitive aspects that are often difficult to understand or be aware of. Additionally, we may carry a foundational belief that it is wrong to express feelings and emotions fully. Many of us with this belief will have formed it during childhood from a projection of our parents’ discomfort with their own feelings and emotions. Fortunately, we have a choice in redefining our relationship to them in a healthy and sustainable way. As essential as feelings and emotions are to being human, it is a great responsibility for us to explore them deeply.
