In order to retrieve the inner child , a lot of us need to heal them first. Healing from childhood traumas like narcissistic abuse requires taking time to properly grieve and let go of the narrative tied to those difficult experiences. Next is calling yourself out / identifying habits that are associated to your hurt inner child - by identifying these habits you can interrupt them and break the pattern. Then you can replace these habits with habits that do serve you. In order to retrieve the inner child - we can do a variety of things like writing letters as / to our inner child, saying nurturing healing affirmations and more.
