Fear is a foundational driver of shutting down curiosity. It is natural for our human minds to inquire about the unknown. Why am I feeling this way? Why are they reacting that way? Such basic questions often lead to some form of action, such as asking the person one more deep question. We tend to stop engaging when things get uncomfortable. Others also attempt to stop our engagement because they are uncomfortable. Censorship of speech is a prime example. At what point do you stop acting on your curiosity?
Shutting down inspiration
Being genuinely engaged and curious about others’ lives
It’s always interesting when someone isn’t willing to go into depth
Something’s dying when we don’t allow the curiosity to flow
Are you ebbing and flowing with the person you’re in conversation with?
How often are we being curious with ourself?
Is your curiosity coming from genuine inspiration or fear?
What are we projecting onto the situation?
Why is it worth it to stay curious in the moment?
