Krista McCuish shares her journey into landscape photography, which began with childhood explorations in the coastal woodlands of Nova Scotia. These early wanderings ignited her imagination and a lifelong fascination with nature, particularly the overlooked details of the natural world. With a focus on botanicals, textures, and patterns, Krista creates thought-provoking, intimate photographs that highlight the beauty of the unseen.
Her background in critical care nursing, including ICU, aeromedical evacuation, and forensic nursing, combined with studies in earth science and toxicology, informs her art with a unique perspective. Krista finds calm and creative fulfillment in macro and still-life photography, where she uses her keen observation skills to explore the intricacies of her subjects.
Krista's work has been featured in solo and group exhibitions across Nova Scotia, including ViewPoint and Studio Lab Galleries, as well as in numerous publications. She also experiments with mixed media, such as watercolor and printmaking, to expand the expressive potential of her photography. Reflecting on the role of social media, Krista discusses the challenge of balancing creative integrity with sharing her work online and her dedication to pushing the boundaries of photographic art.
