This is Heather’s story. It was very hard for her to share. Trusting God or the universe with our lives is never easy. Heather is honest and unreserved despite the turmoil of her situation. She wants you to know about the genetic disease her family faces daily called Metachromatic Leukodystrophy. A disease that robs her later adult years. In people with Metachromatic Leukodystrophy, white matter damage causes progressive deterioration of intellectual functions and motor skills, such as the ability to walk or make decisions. Affected individuals also develop loss of sensation in the extremities (peripheral neuropathy), incontinence, seizures, paralysis, an inability to speak, blindness, and hearing loss. Eventually they lose awareness of their surroundings and become unresponsive. Learn more about the disease
