Once Pete and Gretchen get done telling you about the wine they're drinking, they delve into two big topics - Triggers and The Exercise Gap.
Pete's triggers are lead by emotion, the social side of eating, and nostalgia. Gretchen's really centers around something completely different - boredom. As they explore the reasons why they have overeaten for many years, you learn a lot about their struggles and how they overcome them. Willpower plays a key role. Is it sustainable?
In the Exercise Gap segment, Gretchen's honest take on why she is not currently exercising is something we have all dealt with. Pete is in a place where exercise is becoming habit. How do they support each other while in different phases? Maybe Pete pushes Gretchen a little far here as he tries to understand where she is at in her exercise journey. You'll have that sometimes with a couple.
The support they show each other when it comes to food, which they are doing together and on the same path, is different from how they must interact with exercise. The real-life anecdotes they share are being played out around the world as more couple combat weight and health issues.
The couple also give a ton of shout outs this episode, even doing a commercial for one of their favorite restaurants, Viaggio. (They early await the sponsorship offer). And, after the episode was recorded, Pete vowed to stop referring to good podcasting. Should any of us really believe him?
