How does Noam Chomsky, one of the foremost “leftist” intellectuals associate himself with the dark heart of imperial blackmailing pimpery, Jeffery Epstein? Many people who found Chomsky’s leftist politics too tepid and too anti revolutionary are taking a victory lap. Does this taint his work and render it useless in the fight against fascism and colonialism and US empire, all the things that Chomsky dedicated his work to combat? Were there signs in Chomsky’s political philosophy that might have hinted at this relationship? Can we allow our political figures to live lives separate from their philosophy? Do I as I say, not as I hop on board the Lolita Express to visit Little St James.
To make sense of this I had fellow Florida Man, Nathan Robinson, stop by my apartment. Robinson knows Chomsky fairly well. His work has been influenced by Chomsky’s criticism of US Empire, and it shows in his work and his magazine, Current Affairs. He even co wrote a book with Chomsky in 2024 titled, The Myth of American Idealism. Robinson gives the best explanation I’ve heard so far.
We also talk conspiracies, the state of journalism and a super special secret guest calls in to say hello.
