Rachel Walla is an engineer with a passion for traveling and living in freedom. She did several shorter trips to Europe before saving up and spending 8 months backpacking around the world. She returned to the corporate world, but found that it was not her dream anymore. So she started to build up her websites A Map to Anywhere and Health and Safety Plans and several months ago made the leap to digital nomad.
Did you know The Things She Does is now on Pinterest? Follow the show there for great pins on travel, fashion, lifestyle, lifehacks, fitness and more.
"The hardest part is leaving. Once you are on the road you figure it out."We talk about how she earns a living on the road, what dating is like around the world (apparently Tinder is international!), her desire for roots at home and wanderlust (I recommended she read At Home in the World by Tsh Oxenreider), and why travel is not as expensive as people think.
We also talk a bit about her beauty routine on the road (thank you bright red lipstick) and her gear. She uses a Tortuga backpack (I used an Osprey on our last trip), Sony A5100 camera, laptop, global converter and a messenger bag for day use (I used one very similar to this bag on our trip). You can read more about Rachel's gear here.
Some of the things she does NOT do include watching a lot of TV and keeping a lot of stuff. Like many people she read Marie Kondo's Life-changing magic of tidying up and got rid of a bunch of stuff.
You can find Rachel on Instagram @amaptoanywhere or Twitter @amaptoanywhere, or online at A Map to Anywhere, or Health and Safety Plans.
Top Six: Book: Designing Your Life: How to build a well-lived joyful life by Bill Burnett and Dave Evans Show: Game of Thrones App: Instagram Lifehack: Being low maintenance with hair and makeup while on the road Social Media: @yoga_girl who also has a podcast From the Heart Podcast: Why oh Why, TED Talk Podcast, Tim Ferris
