In this text, Jesus confronts and disrupts the sale of temple sacrifices. These sacrifices were an important and expected part of religious life for the people who travelled to visit the temple. Jesus’ act of hostility (flipping over tables and making a whip to drive out the people selling animals) is a significant challenge to established practices. Sometimes, our faith needs to be upended.
