Listen Later

In this episode, I am joined by a truly inspiring guest, and my dear friend Vishwas, who transitioned from successful careers in engineering and marketing to become an actor. We discussed his fascinating journey, including a layoff, recent successes (on network television!), being kind to yourself and receiving support. Be prepared to be inspired as we discuss dreaming big, overcoming obstacles, and redefining success on your own terms. Don't miss out on this uplifting conversation - it will make you believe ANYTHING is possible.

Meet Vishwas: Born and raised in India, Vishwas gained theatre and TV experience before moving to the US for an MBA in 2004. He left a corporate career to pursue acting and filmmaking with his wife’s support. He has appeared in MGM’s "Landscape With Invisible Hand" and CBS’s "The Equalizer," and played roles in indie projects and acclaimed plays. As a writer and producer, his short film "The Visit" won multiple awards and was a Vimeo Staff Pick. His directorial debut, "Aftermath," also received awards.

Key topics include:

  1. Decision to pursue acting and the initial challenges faced in India

  2. Transition from a career in engineering and marketing to acting

  3. Defining success in three-month increments

  4. How he got in his own way.

  5. Quotables:

(14:36) VISHWAS "I enjoyed marketing, especially the higher you get. It's more of a general management approach. And from a to b, you're responsible for the whole P&L, and you're managing people. And I love that part. I was good at it. But deep down, even on my best days or my bestest things, I would always be like, man, I always wanted to be an actor. Or man, I love acting....And it came to a point where I realized that at this point, at that point in life, the only person standing between me and trying to give what I love to do a decent shot is myself and will I be able to live with that or not?"

(24:58) VISHWAS "You don't need a lot of people. You just need, you know, you just need, like, whoever your partner or your closest person is to be on the same page and supportive and help and do their best ability. And then you just need, like, a handful of close, good friends that you. That you can confide in, that you can talk to, that, you know, will tell you as it is, but also keep you, you know, uplifted when need be."

(32:50) TOSCA "I think it's important for everybody to hear that it can be difficult to know how to talk about ourselves when we're in transition or when we no longer have the identity that we've hung on to for so long. Oh, I'm a marketer, right? Or, oh, I work in circles, right? Or, oh, I can attach myself to the Pepsi and the post of the world, you know? And so I just love that you share that because it's universal."
