Ep. 25: Sometimes You Need to Slow Down to Speed Up

Listen Later

You know those days when you feel like you’re working and working and working, but you don’t feel like you’re getting any traction? Like you’re just spinning your wheels, but you’re not actually getting anywhere? Sometimes we get so caught up in the daily grind of just working and never slowing down, the quality of what we’re working on actually starts to go downhill. Despite the constant hard work, we lose momentum. We lose focus. The ideas we come up with don’t feel as clear or as purposeful. And as we attempt to execute on ideas that are unclear, we lose steam.

Or what about those times you encounter a slight inconvenience, but rather than addressing the issue as soon as it shows up, you find yourself working harder than you need to to try and keep working around it. Because you don’t think you have the time to address it. Unfortunately, however, when you don’t address the little inconveniences or challenges that come up, you end up creating even bigger problems that become even more difficult to work around.

The simple act of slowing down, getting reconnected with yourself – that's what allows you to have more intentionality in what you do. It allows you to be more productive and get more done in less time. And it allows you to create things from a more aligned place and to create things that feel like they have so much more value than the things you try to create when you feel like you’re spinning your wheels or running in place.

Most of the time, if we allow ourselves to slow down and either re-focus or deal with the little inconveniences that are tripping us up, the slow-down doesn’t take us as long as we think it’s going to. And by allowing ourselves to momentarily slow down, we ultimately allow ourselves to have a more intentional focus, and we equip ourselves with the tools to be able to push forward with a lot more momentum and purpose.
