In To Be Loved, Dr. Anderson takes us through his own journey of growing up gay in a traditional Italian American home that was fiercely loving and culturally close-knit while at the same time unaccepting, abusive and riddled with secret shame and dark family secrets. At just the tender age of six, he was made to feel that something was “wrong” with him, as he forcibly endured the horrific reality of “conversion therapy” for six long years and was forced to be somebody he wasn’t for decades.
