In 1969, the Minority Business Development Agency was established, under the Nixion administration. This decision impacted the loans given to minority-owned businesses, which increased by 24%. Additionally, a variety of programs were developed with the intent to alleviate the effects of systematic racism.

While many people view the support of Black-owned businesses as just an act of altruism, Black businesses also drive the economy.
