EP 30 Lighting Up The HollyWood Hotplate- With Serena Poon
Welcome to episode 30 of the Career Breakthrough Series, in this episode I interview Serena Poon.
After graduating from UC Berkeley with her bachelor's degree and completing the Culinary Arts program with Le Cordon Bleu, Serena Poon began her culinary career working for Hugh Hefner and Playboy Enterprises at the Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills. Serena took that exposure into the world of fine dining and started her own personal chef and private catering business. Over the past several years, she has established herself as one of the top high-profile personal chefs in Los Angeles and has built a strong clientele strictly by referral.
From the likes of Garry Marshall to Kanye West to Adam Sandler, Serena’s clients span the country and range from prominent celebrities, athletes and executives, to the everyday family of four. She caters charity events, boutique parties, intimate dinners and also delivers to clients who require ready-made meals at their disposal.
In addition to creating culinary magic, Serena has had the opportunity to be a part of movie magic. One of her clients wanted to see her skills on the big screen and gave her a small role in Valentine’s Day. From there Serena earned a much bigger part in the upcoming movie New Year’s Eve, playing a chef alongside Katherine Heigl and Sophia Vergara (a chef playing a chef!). Serena also served as a set consultant for the kitchen/food scenes in the movie.
Serena doubles as a gourmet chef and nutritionist to her clientele. Her passionate focus on the importance of whole body and mind wellness is inspired by the devastating loss of her father, when both her parents were diagnosed with cancer in their 40s. She is known for curating healing and wellness programs using integrative health, holistic nutrition and culinary alchemy.
