Ep. 31 Learning about EMDR and Attachment with Yuki Shida

Listen Later

In today's episode, I am excited to introduce Yuki Shida, an LMFT who is passionate about supporting Asian American children of immigrants, particularly those dealing with anxiety and childhood trauma. A second-generation Japanese American, Yuki was raised by a single mother as the eldest daughter and grew up speaking Japanese as her first language. She has lived in Tokyo, the Bay Area, Los Angeles, and Orange County—experiences that deeply inform her bicultural and trauma-informed work.

Yuki holds a B.A. in Ethnomusicology from the University of California, Los Angeles (2012) and an M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from Hope International University (2017). Over the past eight years, she has specialized in trauma work, couples therapy, and the clinical supervision of pre-licensed therapists. She is EMDR Certified through EMDRIA and trained in Gottman Method Level 2.

In her practice, Yuki helps clients reframe shame and pain as signs of courage and resilience. She believes everyone deserves to live a rich, full life—regardless of their past—and that nothing is too far broken to be healed. Her work centers on helping people recognize they are in the driver’s seat of their mental and emotional wellness.

Yuki is a proud wife of 12 years and a mom of two. Her faith is an important part of her life and often finds expression through music. In her free time, she enjoys doing 1000-piece puzzles, baking, and traveling to Japan to visit relatives.
