Ep 37: Teenage Mutant Renaissance Artists

Listen Later

Modern comic books and cartoon shows take their characters from famous Italian renaissance artists?  Yes; it's true!

Zach and Rafe this week discuss the four famous artists who are namesakes to the slightly less famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Leonardo da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello.  Join them as they discuss the accomplishments of these great men and how their works inspire us today in art, architecture, and even comic books!

Along the way, pick up tips for understanding how the human body relates to the cosmos, how to square a circle, how to make a modern day frescos with drywall mud, how Archimedes invented bowling, why the statue of David is so impressive, why Michelangelo's name is on his La Pieta, and that Donatello's bronze statue of David beats Michelangelo's marble version by over 60 years.  As usual, our hosts provide interesting historical tidbits along with their usual occasional creative stretches of the truth.
