3 Questions with Rick Dancer
Success, defeat, adaptation and facing adversity as an entrepreneur.
This segment of Three Questions with a Pro will introduce you to Rick Dancer of Rick Dancer Media. He will share concepts that can help property restoration professionals to reap the rewards of investing in their social media efforts and inspire them to keep innovating as the market is always changing. Coronavirus will force many entrepreneurs to dig deep into their ability to be creative with their resources while taking risks that will help them to continue to grow in the face of adversity.
Entrepreneurs are no strangers to adversity.
Rick Dancer, or as he was known around Lane County, the face of local news, is an entrepreneur who is no stranger to adversity. For nearly 25 years, Mr. Dancer appeared nightly on local television sets as he worked for the local ABC and CBS affiliates in the third largest market in the state of Oregon. Rick set his microphone down in 2008 as the lead anchor and executive editor for KEZI TV based out of Eugene, Oregon.
With so much misinformation being shared about COVID-19, I wanted to ask Rick about his perspective on how mainstream media approaches reporting during times of crisis. Mr. Dancer shares his experience with one of the greatest tragedies in his region, the Thurston High School shooting in 1998, which was treated very differently by the national and the local media outlets. He discusses how news has changed over the years and how he has worked with business owners to create opportunities for successfully marketing directly to the public .
Successful entrepreneurs will continue to serve and adapt.
As Mr. Dancer transitioned from being a recognized member of the media, to running for public office and defeating cancer, he launched his own media company. When I met Rick in 2017, he was building an impressive local following by utilizing Facebook live to help promote local businesses. He is an entrepreneurial professor of social media marketing as he has built multiple facets to his growing business.
Rick shares unique perspectives on current events such as coronavirus as well as an inspiring message calling entrepreneurs to keep finding new ways to serve and innovate. We all know that we have passed the point of returning to business as usual, so we must lead ourselves, our teams and our organizations through these challenges.
