Welcome to this episode of The Rewired Parent.
I’ve spent 30 years as an educational leader and hold a doctorate in special education. On paper, I was the person who was supposed to have all the answers. But at home, with my own amazing, complex, neurodivergent kids, I was drowning. I tried the sticker charts, the time-outs, and the endless lectures, only to find myself in a constant state of frustration, feeling the connection with my kids slipping away.
I thought it was a battle of wills. I was wrong. It was a battle of wiring.
In this foundational episode, I’m not sharing tips from a textbook. I’m sharing my own story—from the public meltdowns and feelings of failure to the "aha" moment that changed everything. This is the journey that led to the core philosophy of this entire movement: Stop fighting the fire. Understand the spark.
Join me for the vulnerable, messy, and ultimately hopeful story of how I went from a desperate parent to a rewired one.
In This Episode, You Will Learn:
Why the conventional parenting playbook is destined to fail our neurodivergent kids.
The painful, real-life moments that pushed me to abandon the old way and search for something better.
The single most important paradigm shift: moving from a "behavior" lens to a "nervous system" lens.
How understanding neuroscience can transform your role from "enforcer" to your child's most trusted "ally."
The origin of the "Spark Squad" and the mission of The Rewired Parent movement.
