Beyond Consultation

Ep 4 - How can Codesign Reduce Costs? with Dr Jo Cribb

Listen Later

Introducing Jo Cribb

Jo Cribb first came across our radar in 2017 when she stepped down as the CEO of the Ministry of Women.

She could have stayed the course with her secure public sector career.

Instead, she leaped into a portfolio career with three key areas of focus:

  1. Increasing gender diversity and inclusion.
  2. Increasing the impact and profile of the NGO sector.
  3. Exploring the future of work.
  4. And she has flourished!

She’s now the (co)author of several books, including the soon-to-be-released Take Our Space, co-authored with Rachel Petero - a guidebook for anybody who has ever seen a female talked over in a meeting, passed over for promotion, or forgotten during a round of pay rises.

Jo is an important thought leader in New Zealand, and her episode is not to be missed. You can connect with her on LinkedIn or learn more at www.jocribb.co.nz.

    In today’s episode you’ll learn:
    • How you can build a career around the areas of change you want to see in the world (and the surprising benefits of taking this path)
    • How going beyond consultation is often the cost-effective option, even if you may not first think so
    • What the codesign process actually looked like to develop the National Action Plan for Community Governance (and the reasons this was so effective)
    • How you can build the case for codesign within your organisation (and yes… the answer involves a little bit of codesign!)
    • Resources mentioned in this episode
      • The National Action Plan for Community Governance
      • Sprinting for Good: Using co-design to collaborate for social impact
      • Governing for Good, Jo’s report into the governance capability of social sector NGOs
      • Being Accountable, the readable version of Jo’s doctoral thesis! If you manage central government relationships with not-for-profit services providers, this is for you. It looks at how to improve the relationship between government agencies and not-for-profit service providers.
      • Jo also writes regularly for Stuff, so keep an eye out for her there.
      • Plus we highly recommend Jo’s books
