“Today’s episode is about something that’s becoming more and more common in creative communities — being silenced, shut down, or erased for simply having a conversation and a different opinion.
My guest today is Brian Graupner, musician, label founder, and host of the long-running industrial scene livestream Space Couch. For over two decades he created music, interviewed artists, and contributed to the scene without controversy.
But in 2023, everything changed.
Brian hosted a podcast guest whose views were considered controversial. Before the episode even aired, he was warned not to platform the conversation. His response was simple:
‘I think it’s okay to talk to people.’
Within days, shows were cancelled, venues distanced themselves, collaborators disappeared, and Brian became one of the most cited examples of cancel culture within the industrial and goth scene.
Since then he’s lost gigs, a label he built from the ground up, and even had to leave the city he lived in.
Yet he never stopped creating.
Today we’re talking about what actually happened, what it’s like to be cancelled, and why the ability to have open conversations without fear matters now more than ever.
