How many times have you heard the phrase, “I'll be happy when…” or “wouldn’t it be great if we got…”. More often than not, people attach the definition of happiness to something they need to obtain. Although it could bring you happiness but it isn’t the true definition of happiness.
This is why it got us thinking, should we be re-evaluating the definition of happiness? Tal Ben-Shahar, a positive psychologist has a theory that you shouldn't chase happiness.
External factors such as the social norms of getting married, finding a partner, having a family, being rich can sometimes influence people to think that these are the definition of happiness but there is more it than that.
Others believe that happiness is a paradox. I.e. studies from Iris Moss have shown that the more you chase happiness, the harder you fall. Because if you don’t find the things you have defined as happiness, then you feel disappointed.
Listen in on the episode and let us know what you think about this theory. Should we be re-evaluating the definition of happiness?
