We discuss Andy’s background in the property restoration industry and evolution as The Godfather of Remote Estimating. When he took the plunge into being a freelancing remote estimator it was not a concept that many had heard of, especially in the world of water and fire damage repairs.
He shares his experiences with the Matterport 3D scanning camera and how this has helped him to elevate his Xactimate estimating for insurance claims.
Some considerations for those on the fence about 3D scanning for insurance claims:
The details that you can acquire from the field far exceed those available from traditional photos. I can remember when the Sony Mavica floppy disc camera was a leading innovation - how many of you had piles of three and a half inch disks in your file cabinets?
Whether you hire freelance remote estimators or your project managers write Xactimate estimates based upon field documents created by technicians, the 3D scan can expedite their ability to gather the details of the loss.
What will you do if you have to defend your documentation in court and you are up against a consultant who uses this technology? Andy’s famous tagline is, “The thickest file wins,” and this innovation is going to be utilized by those who want to pick your billing apart.
Mr. McCabe closes with a poignant quote for any entrepreneur and/or small business owner, “The road of life is paved with squirrels who couldn’t make a decision.” Life is coming at us fast and the market is rapidly changing. We don’t know what things will look like on the other side of coronavirus but we do know that it will NOT be business as usual.
