Finally!
Yes, you’ve finally decided that you want to have your own business doing what you love to do. No matter what others may say or think, this is what you want. You’ve been thinking about this for awhile and even though you don’t have the whole plan mapped out yet, that’s ok. You already know that you can’t have it all planned out to the letter anyway, so why waste the time in trying.
Plans change, decisions change, the consumer demands change, finances change, relationships change… you get all that. But you also get that you should have some sort of a blueprint to refer to over and over again so that through all the changes, the overall plan…the overall goal still keeps you travelling in the right direction.
You’ve read some good books on starting a business, but books can only bring you so far. And so can Google. And YouTube. And any other Internet search you can do.
You don’t need more convincing. You don’t need more inspiration. You just need someone to tell you what the key components of an online business are and how to get them done.
But at some point, you have to learn by doing. You have to move forward, make decisions, see what happens, fix what needs fixing and keep moving forward. Little by little, day by day. This business won’t launch on its own. It won’t bring in clients or sell products by itself. Now you can hire someone to run this business for you, but I hope you’re able to let go of a thousand decisions that need to be made and let someone else make them.
Or, you can believe in yourself and have confidence that you can do this. If tens of thousands of others in your situation figured out a way to do it, then you can too.
And this Podcast is here to help you through the process. This Podcast can help to be your blueprint. You can download the episodes that offer you the most value and listen to them over and over again.
Who Are You?
So, who are you? What skills and experience can you offer to people? Do you have a product or a service? Or are you trying to do both? But I hope you’re convinced by now that you’re unique. You have specific:
• skills
• experience
• personality,
• knowledge,
• wisdom
And it doesn’t matter who else is out there already running their successful business in the space you want to run yours. There’s plenty of opportunity out there for you to be successful as well. It’s because you are unique in who you are and what you have to offer; that will be your ticket to success.
Your uniqueness will be your brand. Your special talents and how you offer a solution to solving that problem you solve for people will be your brand. You already have a brand. You already have a certain persona and style and perspective on what you know how to do.
So since you’re already a brand, build that brand. Branding expert, Mike Kim, puts it this way, “It’s not going to be easy, but if you build your personal brand with intention, you truly can create a highly profitable and personally fulfilling business. You truly can change your life while changing other people’s lives, and I truly believe this is one of the most noble ways to make a living.”
And friends, I’ll help you through this process. Whether you’re trying to figure out step 1 or even if you haven’t gotten to step one yet. I’ll help you figure out who you are, what you have to offer and how to market your ideas.
It’s going to take work and some vulnerability on your part sometimes to take some advice and maybe do things a little differently that you thought, but if you’re willing to take some guidance, we can work together to turn your dream into a reality.
But it’s easy to think ‘Great, once I have this all figured out, I’ll start.” Nope, I’m going to ask you to start before you’ve got it all figured out with me alongside as your guide.
The New Version of You
The new Entrepreneur you will need to be nurtured and developed. You see, we all have different versions of who we are based on what we’re doing. There’s:
• The work you
• The home you
• The parent you
• The son or daughter you
• The spouse you
• The out with friends you
• If you have a gym membership, there’s the gym you
And that’s just normal. You’re being a different person for different scenarios but you’re still being authentically you. So now, with this new role of starting and running your own business, you need to work on the entrepreneur you. The business minded version of you.
Be Authentic Online
Most of us have some sort of apprehension to how we appear on the Internet. And trust me, I know why. Once it’s out there it can be there for a long time. Now, I don’t have anything to worry about specifically, but it can get to be a bit too much if we’re sort of consumed with that online image.
And I think it’s really getting to be too much the way we’re bombarded with all the show and hype of people that present themselves as ‘Internet stars’ and that we should just automatically be in awe of them. I’m tired of the phoniness, aren’t you? The constant noise, the empty promises.
But don’t let their phoniness stop you from being authentically you. You are who you are, and your success will be based on that. Hey, I’ve said for some time now, that I think I have a face for radio and a voice for print, ok. But even though I’m not thrilled with how I look or sound, I didn’t let that stop me from having my own Website and Podcast. I’m going to be me and if others don’t like that then they can go to someone else for startup advice. It’s their choice.
If you’re like me, you tend to look at others and think that there path to success is straight and they had it all figured out. But trust me, their path, as well as your path will not be straight. It’s going to be full of curves and twists and turns and even a few circles now and then. But that’s normal. You can even throw in a few failures here and there and that’s ok too.
Now I really don’t know your specific situation and at what stage in life you’re going through. I specialize in helping those making that later in life pivot to an online personal brand business because I know how the business climate used to be and how it is now. And I can help them with that internal, mental transition and to get past all the technology that gets in the way in this modern world.
So, what’s in store for some upcoming Podcast episodes? Well, stay tuned because in one way or another, I’m going to go over what I call ‘The 7 Building Blocks to a Successful Business’. These are the 7 core topics that I think every small business should understand and implement. What are they?
1. Your vision
2. The Website
3. Products or Services
4. Marketing
5. Email list
6. Branding
7. Copywriting
Now of course, there’s a hundred more topics that we’ll go over too, and even some interviews of people that we can learn from on how they build their business, but if I had to pick what the core topics are for LAUNCHING the business, it would be this list of 7 that I just mentioned.
So…FINALLY, you’ve decided to start your own business. Well, jump on the entrepreneur train and hang on. We’re going to have quite a ride.
