RAW Leadership

Ep 51 - Why Emotional Intelligence isn’t Soft

Listen Later

Emotional intelligence isn’t about making leadership softer.

It’s about making leadership more effective.

In this short, powerful and straight-to-the-point 16-minute episode of the RAW Leadership Podcast, I challenge the belief that empathy, understanding human behaviour and creating psychological safety are somehow signs of weak leadership.

They’re not.

Emotional intelligence is one of the most important leadership skills we can develop.

Great leadership starts with understanding yourself, understanding people and recognising the patterns of human behaviour that influence how people communicate, react, perform and work together.

When leaders develop their emotional intelligence, they become better at communication, difficult conversations, conflict resolution, accountability and building authentic relationships.

They learn how to adapt their leadership style to the person and the situation rather than expecting everyone to respond in the same way.

And that has a direct impact on ...
workplace culture
psychological safety
employee engagement
team performance
productivity and employee retention.

Strong leadership development isn't simply about teaching managers how to manage.

It's about developing emotionally intelligent, confident and authentic leaders who understand how to influence people for the greater good.

Because when people feel safe, seen, heard, respected and supported — while still being held accountable to clear standards — we create stronger teams and healthier workplace cultures.

That’s where leadership coaching and leadership development can make a significant difference.

If you’re a business owner, executive, manager or emerging leader, give me 16 minutes.

Because emotional intelligence isn’t soft.

It’s a leadership advantage.
