Challenges that boys face in today’s world
Summary:
In this episode, we are honoured to have Dr. Emma Waddington, a UK trained Clinical Psychologist with over two decades of experience in mental health. Dr Emma holds a Ph.D. in Psychology and multiple advanced degrees in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Research Methods. Over her career, she has worked across the UK and Singapore in both public and private sectors, developing cutting edge mental health services, including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) programmes. Dr Emma has also lectured at leading institutions such as the Anna Freud Centre, the Institute of Psychiatry, London and NUS in Singapore. She remains dedicated to supporting families and individuals in overcoming emotional and behavioural challenges.
In this thought provoking conversation, we tackle an urgent yet often overlooked issue: the challenges that boys face in today’s world. Emma sheds light on why boys are increasingly being left behind academically and socially, and how this leads to a concerning rise in mental health struggles, including loneliness, anxiety, depression, and higher risks of crime and suicide. We discuss the need to reframe how we parent and educate our boys, emphasising that it takes collective effort from families, schools, and society to help boys thrive emotionally and socially. Dr Emma also explores why a world that prioritises the safety and wellbeing of women and girls creates a healthier, more equitable environment for boys and men.
If you’re a parent, educator, or someone who cares about creating a better future for our children, this episode is a must listen.
