This is a question that's been on my mind as of late, and so I contacted the one guy that would know: Stephen Kent. Kent is a reporter for the Washington Examiner and is the host of the best politics/news star wars podcast: Beltway Banthas. 

We asked him about the nerds in D.C., and how their fandom affects their work. Stephen doesn't take a side in the fandom wars, but he does have an opinion about what they mean. 

Then we talk about Star Wars fandom specifically and what lessons it can teach us about human nature and democracy. kent says Star Wars should help us to understand to be wary of human nature lest those on the Darkside take advantage of us.
