In the late 19th century exploration and colonization was all the rage, but Europeans were downright depressed that there was basically nowhere left to brutally subjugate for their own gain. Enter King Leopold II of Belgium who realized that no one was taking advantage of the tribal people living in central Africa. And so, the Congo Free State was born and upwards of 10 million natives were killed through disease, starvation, or old fashioned murder so that the world could have cheap tires.
