So many companies and brands claim diversity and inclusion as apart of their corporate culture, but what does it really mean today? We see companies like Starbucks, H&M, the Waffle House, and others under scrutiny for racial bias. We walk into our workspaces we sometimes have to battle stereotypes and perception of people of color. We constantly see new stories and media highlighting people of color unlawfully arrested, beaten, and mistreated. As people of color, we have our own sense of identity but its a personal journey to our how we define ourselves and create our own brand in the workplace.
Today's guest, Micheal J.A. Davis explores his work as a brand and design architect for the National Institute of Health (NIH) and many other corporations. He helps brands define themselves and the people they serve. We compare this same methodology to define our own personal brand. He discusses new ideas of disrupting the traditional diversity and inclusion model to help corporations truly understand who we are as people of color and as individuals. Lastly, we discuss ways to stay true to our personal brand and identity by staying connecting with who we are.
