Dr. Stephanie Williams and I (Dr. Grace Chen) talk about Dr. Williams' experiences as a student of Color going through the internship application process and navigating the internship year. We talk about how to figure out an internship’s commitment to diversity and if they support trainees of color in their professional and personal lives. We discuss trusting your intuition, focusing on your training experience, and strategies to get through internship year. We both agreed that it’s important to prioritize your mental, emotional, and physical safety and that a year is too long to “suck it up” in an unsupportive environment.
