"Political Economy" is precisely what the name implies: a unity between political and economic policy. It is the father of modern economics, joined with the mother (cousin?) of history and political science. As the scientific study of economics emerged, it was integrally tied to political incentives and, by extension, questions of morality. We will explore the foundational texts of modern political economy from Adam Smith, Ricardo, Marx, Menger, Marshall, Keynes, and more. This course is highly recommended before exploring Karl Marx's Capital.
