In Chapters 15 and 16 of The Lightning Thief, Percy and his friends make it to Denver, where they’re immediately put into the crosshairs of Ares, who presents them with a side quest: retrieve his shield from an abandoned water park, in return for info about Percy’s mom. The quest triggers a trap but the Trio makes it back and heads to Vegas, where they’re tempted by the Lotus Hotel Casino. There’s endless food, games, and…what do you mean there’s only one day left until the solstice?
