Mesilas Yesharim

Ep. 83 – What are You so Busy With

Listen Later

You're too busy—but what are you busy with? The Mesilas Yesharim begins Perek Hey by identifying the first thing that steals our zerizus: being overwhelmed by meaningless activity. People claim they have no time, yet they spend hours scrolling through their phones. WhatsApp, social media, YouTube clips—it's sucking the life out of us. One bachur downloaded an app to track his phone usage, and within seconds it declared: "You are an addict." People spend a third of their lives staring at screens, drowning in distraction because they can't be alone with their own thoughts.

There's a paradox today—we have more free time than ever, yet we're too busy to do what matters. Ask the busiest person to get something done, because people who use their time wisely always have room for one more thing. But those with endless free time? They waste it all. Hashem gave you time—the most precious commodity you'll ever have. Are you using it for Torah, for growth, for building your connection to Him? Or are you letting it slip through your fingers on nonsense? Can you set aside time for what you're obligated to do, or will you keep drowning in distraction?
