Doctrines come from the stories that a church or a political party or some other group tells about itself.  In that sense, the stories people tell themselves create the reality that they believe in.  Powerful stories tell them what’s true and what’s false.  It gives them heroes and villains and victims, and an explanation for why things are the way they are.

And right now we are experiencing a huge war over who gets to tell the stories of what's happening.  And for once, the good guys are winning that battle.
