What does it really take to build a relationship where two individuals don’t feel like they “complete each other” but instead, are two whole individuals coming together for companionship and intimacy?
My guest today Dr. Hod Tamir, a developmental psychologist and licensed mental health counselor has dedicated much of his career answering questions like this one to help emerging and middle aged adults have more satisfaction in their romantic and personal relationships. I was pleasantly surprised to hear that he feels optimistic about younger generations making progress in how they show up in relationships with more open communication, healthy boundaries and a greater possibility for what he calls “interdependence.” Tune in and hear Hod’s standpoint as a psychologist on intimacy-related anxiety, how we can create healthier relationships, what he’s learned from studying ultra-orthodox Jewish communities, and the Social Network Theory.
