In Chapters 17 and 18 of The Lightning Thief, Percy and friends make it to Santa Monica, where he promptly takes a dip in the Pacific and receives “help” from Poseidon in the form of three pearls. After a crusty encounter, the Trio finds their way to DOA Recording Studios, earning them a one-way trip to Hades. Working together, they evade lost souls and three-headed pups on their quest to parley with the Lord of the Dead.
