-How many "years" being involved in something is NOT the same as how many quality HOURS you have in a skill. Let's delve into a critical mindset today: anything that you want to be good at will take practice. It's not enough to phone your workouts in. Effort is important, but being mentally present and focused on developing long-term skill are equally important.

-Jordan argues that being overwhelmed can spark personal growth. Josh says kids should learn about rip currents as soon as practical.

-The beginner-learning-enthusiasm curve, the Dunning-Kruger effect (beginner overconfidence vs master confidence curve), and the concentric zones of comfort, challenge, and overwhelm are all useful to understanding the journey.

-A healthy respect for dangerous things is the first step in being able to harness them for good.
