EP046 Day 4 Consider Your Emotional Intelligence 15 Day Attitude Challenge

Listen Later

Day 4 in the 15 Day Attitude Challenge: Self awareness is not an end point for interpersonal skills. To get along with most of your coworkers most of the time, you must have observational awareness and have the skills to make a connection effort.

Part of the problem is people who do not respond in a way that meets the emotional expectations of others. Some people seem incapable of demonstrating social norms.

Emotional intelligence makes you a great person to be around in good times and bad. A lack of emotional intelligence will chip away at relationships, and leave you feeling like the odd person out at work...and you might not know why. Don't make the mistake of thinking, "Nobody likes me," or "They're so close, that's why they don't like me." Instead, consider your emotional intelligence and identify the behaviors you demonstrate that create difficulty for your coworkers.

If you have a high level of emotional intelligence, you are the person who can bridge interpersonal skill gaps on your team. You are the one who can focus on the goal at hand and guide people toward appropriate responses and a focus on logical discussion instead of emotional disruptions.

The 15 Day Attitude Challenge corresponds with the 15 Practical Tips for Managing Your Mindset, in Catherine's book, LIVE IT! Mastering Positive Attitude Habits, available on Amazon.
