"The Genetic Basis of Creativity and Ideational Fluency" by Mark A. Runco, Ernest P. Noble, Roni Reiter-Palmon, Selcuk Acar, Terry Ritchie & Justin M. Yurkovich

This academic research article published in the Creativity Research Journal investigates the genetic basis of creativity, particularly focusing on ideational fluency. The authors replicated and expanded upon earlier work by Reuter et al. (2006) to examine the relationship between five candidate genes (DAT, COMT, DRD4, DRD2, and TPH1) and creativity. They found a significant association between ideational fluency and several of these genes, particularly DAT and DRD4, suggesting a genetic component to this aspect of creativity. However, the study did not find any association between these genes and originality, a key element of creativity, leading the researchers to conclude that while fluency may be genetically influenced, other factors beyond the genes examined are likely involved in determining creative potential and performance.
